Circular Economy of Building Materials
A project focused on the opportunity to unlock the circular value from buildings and construction, the most materially intensive sector in our economy.
Building Stock Assessment
Man-made structures especially in urban areas contain vast amounts of materials that have to be accounted when evaluating the impacts of the construction industry. A detailed assessment also provides valuable insights into possibilities of utilisation of building materials within a circular economy model.
Development of novel techniques, laboratory and field testing to address two key specific technical challenges to value creation.
LCA is a powerful tool with a holistic approach in measuring sustainability of activities, which is distinctively applicable when there is a network of exchanges involved. In this project, LCA is used extensively to assess both conventional pathways of production of building materials, and alternative circular scenarios. Life cycle inventories are chosen and modified based on the case studies and sample areas of the REBUILD project.
